Five awesome movies filmed in Puerto Rico

4. Contact the Movie

Every science-fiction buff knows this movie by heart. Inspired by Carl Sagan?s novel, bold and free-spirited scientist Ellie Arroway discovers a seemingly extraterrestrial signal coming from space, which then unfolds into a series of events and reactions that try to answer several questions like ?is there life out there??, ?does God exist??, and ?Does Jodie Foster look good in underwear??.

The movie is subtle enough to encourage a good discussion about the possibility of discovering life in other planets and the existence of God, of course, driving far far away from Sagan?s original concept and putting some good old Hollywood karma along the way. However, much of the movie?s central plot revolves around an impressive feat of modern-day technology: the Arecibo Radio Telescope.

The Arecibo Radio Telescope is a 1,000 foot telescope located in the northern mountainous side of the island. It is one of the most unique locations in Puerto Rico, and it has been featured in other famous films like the James Bond feature ?GoldenEye?.
