About San Juan

About the City of San Juan

San Juan is the Capital of Puerto Rico, and the most important commercial hub in the Island. Founded in 1521, it is the the second oldest city established in the Americas.

You can define San Juan in two primary sections: the New City, where most of the commercial and business activity takes place, and the Old City, where most of its historical and architectural attractions are located. It is also where the Government of Puerto Rico is seated.

What to Expect
The San Juan Metro area is a very busy place, so be prepared to take slow moving venues and highways. San Juan itself is a conglomerate of several urban zones, such as Santurce, Hato Rey, and Cupey, among others. So you need to do your homework before taking the drive to explore the City. When exploring the Old City, be ready to wear comfortable clothes and shoes since most of the exploration will be done on foot.

How to Get There
There are several roads that lead from any point on the Island to the San Juan Metro Area. If in the south, you can get to the town of Ponce and from there take road PR-52 North. If from the west, you can take Route #2 towards Arecibo and from there PR-22 towards San Juan. San Juan also hosts the Island's biggest International Airport, The Luis Muoz Marn International Airport.
